Now, I love creating art, no matter what form it is.  One of the funny things that I have discovered over the years is that certain artists dislike or even discredit artists who create in a different technique or medium than that of their own.  A good friend pointed out the following scenario to me… and I’m curious as to why this happens;  why is it that an artist who creates ‘fine art’ (i.e. oil painted landscapes, portraits and such) can criticize an artist who does illustration, and even say that their work isn’t art?  Or why can an illustrator who makes his/her work by hand say that the work of another illustrator who uses only digital media is any less ‘art’ than their work?

I don’t get it. In my opinion, anyone who puts passion and precision into their work is an artist.  Thus a great chef is an artist (have you seen some of those oriental chefs? O_O), or even a gardener who puts their soul into tending their garden.  It is from this criticism, that people are always more than ready to dish out, that my fears were born.  I have always been fearful of bearing my work to the public… opposing that feeling, I have a nagging personal need to do so.  It has faded over the years, but it still lingers, as I’m sure it does with most artists (if not all).

One of the funny things I’ve found myself pondering lately is the scenario of the fine painter vs. the illustrator vs. the digital artist… etc. and blah blah…

My problem lies here… I create ALL of those types, and am sitting here with a stupid smirk on my face at the visual in my mind of me arguing with myself over which art form I create is more valid than the other.

Anyhow, I don’t want to rant on for eternity, so I’ll end this here.  I’m glad to have finally started a blog to help me to interact with other art-minded folks, and to promote my art site MasterMindArtStudio.com
